Disposal
What should I do with any products I have at home?
You should not consume the product. You could bring back the product to the shop where you bought it and you may be offered a refund. Most retailers are accepting returned product. Alternatively, you could dispose of the product with your household waste (see below).
The EPA recommends disposal by rendering of contaminated pork goods in the commercial chain (see EPA website for advice PDF). Retailers have been asked to co-operate and to assist in the collection, return and disposal of product through the supply chain. The retail and hospitality industries have been briefed and advised on appropriate actions to take.
Environmental health officers (EHOs) throughout the country are assisting in this withdrawal process.
Can I dispose of the product in recycling or landfill?
You should dispose of the product with your household waste which goes into landfill. The product should not be disposed of into the recycling or composting bin. This advice is as a result of discussions with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Am I legally entitled to a refund?
The National Consumer Agency is advising consumers who have purchased products affected by the recall that they have rights under consumer legislation and may wish to consider returning these products to the retailer and seeking a refund. See NCA advice to consumers and shops on Irish pig meat recall. For more information on your consumer rights call the NCA Consumer Helpline on Lo-call 1890 432 432 or (01) 402 5555.
Can I give these pork products to my cat or dog?
Feeding these products to your pets is not advisable.
