The DoHC Invite Submissions on the Introduction of Health Advice/Warnings on Alcohol Containers
Wednesday, 16 September 2009
The Minister for Health and Children, Ms. Mary Harney T.D., proposes to introduce legislation to provide for the placing of health advice/warnings on all alcoholic drink containers (bottles, cans etc.) and on promotional materials. The health advice will relate to the consumption of alcohol during pregnancy. The new legislation will also allow for other health messages and health advice to be included on labels and promotional materials as the Minister decides.
It is also being proposed that the amount of pure alcohol contained in each bottle, can etc. will be displayed on the label or on the outside of the container in a format such that the consumer will be better informed in relation to what is being consumed.
Submissions are invited from the public and interested parties in relation to these proposals. The closing date for submissions is Friday 9th October. See the Department of Health and Children's website for further information and to make a submission.
