  • European Communities (Foods intended for use in energy-restricted diets for weight reduction) Regulations, 2007 (S.I. No. 784 of 2007)

These regulations give effect to Commission Directive 96/8/EC and Commission Directive 2007/29/EC on foods intended for use in energy-restricted diets for weight reduction. The Regulations lay down compositional, labelling, advertising and presentation requirements for foods for particular nutritional uses intended for use in energy restricted diets for weight reduction.

For the purposes of the Regulations, foods for use in energy-restricted diets for weight reduction are divided into two categories:

  • products presented as a replacement for the whole of the daily diet
  • products presented as a replacement for one or more meals of the daily diet

Foods for use in energy-restricted diets for weight reduction may only be marketed if they confirm to the provisions of S.I. No. 784 of 2007
