EU Commission consultation on contingency plan for ensuring food supply and food security

Friday, 11 December 2020

The European Commission has developed a ‘farm to fork’ strategy that includes the development of a contingency plan to ensure the EU’s food supply and food security in the event of future crises. Building on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent events, the Commission plans to develop a set of procedures to be followed in times of crisis. This includes establishing an EU crisis response mechanism to effectively prepare and respond to critical events that could threaten the EU’s food security. The roadmap for this EU food contingency plan has been published for consultation by the Commission.

This consultation is targeting operators in the food supply chain (producers, fishers, traders, processors, distributors, retailers, food service providers) and their associations; other stakeholders with an interest in food supply chain operation (input providers, transport operators, insurers, etc.); consumers and consumer groups; civil society organisations; Member States’ representatives and competent authorities; international organisations and third countries; and the scientific community and policy support bodies.

The consultation is open for feedback until 13 January 2021.
