Animal Health Rules - Aquaculture Diseases

The health requirements for aquaculture animals and products therof are set out in the legislation below.

Consideration should also be given to the requirements set out for live bivalve molluscs (which also apply to live echinoderms, live tunicates and live marine gastropods) in Annex III Section VII of Regulation 853/2004/EC laying down specific hygiene rules for foods of animal origin. In addition, microbiological criteria for cooked crustaceans and molluscan shellfish, live bivalve molluscs and live echinoderms, tunicates and gastropods and shelled and shucked products of cooked crustaceans and molluscan shellfish are set out in Regulation 2073/2005/EC

Implementing Measures
Commission Regulation (EC) No 1251/2008 (OJ L337, p41, 16/12/2008) of 12 December 2008 implementing Council Directive 2006/88/EC as regards conditions and certification requirements for the placing on the market and the import into the Community of aquaculture animals and products thereof and laying down a list of vector species

  •  Directive 2002/99/EC lays down the general animal health rules governing all stages of the production, processing and distribution within the Community and the introduction from third countries of products of animal origin and products obtained therefrom intended for human consumption.

European Communities (Health of aquaculture animals and products) Regulations 2008 (S.I. No. 261 of 2008)

S.I. No. 261 of 2008, as amended, gives effect to Council Directive 2006/88/EC of 24 October 2006 on animal health requirements for aquaculture animals and products thereof, and on the prevention and control of certain diseases in aquatic animals. The Regulations replace and revoke existing Regulations in this field.
