Simplified Procedure - Notification

Where an applicant considers their food or ingredient to be 'substantially equivalent' to a similar product already on the EU market, the applicant may apply to the European Commission directly with supporting scientific evidence or alternatively seek the opinion of a Member State competent authority. The applicant must provide scientific evidence that the products are substantially equivalent with respect to composition, nutritional value, metabolism, intended use and the level of undesirable substances contained therein.
