Following official sampling and analysis of chilli products according to Commission decision 2003/460/EC, FSAI has been notified of the presence of the Sudan red 1 colorant in Roma Red Pesto Sauce.

Semicarbazide In Packaged Foods

In July 2003, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) was informed that semicarbazide (SEM) may have been found in some plastic sealing gaskets used in lids of glass jars in some packaged foods, which would include fruit juices, jams and conserves, honey, baby food, pickles, mayonnaise, and sauces.
