Many Food Businesses Are Not Providing Allergen Information to Consumers

Findings of an audit published that shows an unacceptable level of non-compliance by food businesses when it comes to providing consumers with accurate written information on 14 specified allergens in non-prepacked food. New national information campaign launched which will run across, print, online and broadcast media with strong messages to highlight the potential consequences that missing or inaccurate allergen information can have on an individual’s health.

Five Closure Orders were served on food businesses during the month of January for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010. The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE).
FSAI Advice Line Received 3,202 Food Complaints in 2016

The FSAI's Advice Line received 3,202 complaints by consumers relating to food, food premises and food labelling in 2016. The figure represents a total increase of 17% on 2015 (when 2,739 were received), with the number of complaints about food poisoning were up considerably at 45%.
