Message:
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has been informed by the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority of the withdrawal from the market of raw oysters supplied for direct consumption harvested from Carlingford Lough, Co. Louth. The oysters, from Carlingford Oyster Company, supplied up to and including the 10th February, bearing the approval number IE LO 0014 EC have been withdrawn as a precaution due to the possible presence of Norovirus.Oysters bearing this approval number and placed on the market from 11th February 2010 have been harvested from a different area and are unaffected by this alert.
The FSAI is advising caterers not to serve and consumers not to consume the implicated raw oysters.
Nature Of Danger:
Norovirus causes winter vomiting disease which is a highly contagious viral infection.
