Thursday, 6 May 2010

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today stated that four Closure Orders and four Prohibition Orders were served on food businesses during the month of April for breaches of food safety legislation pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998.  The Orders were issued by environmental health officers (EHOs) in the HSE West Region, the HSE Dublin Mid Leinster Region and the HSE Dublin North East Region.

Closure Orders were served on:

  • Mother India restaurant, The Square, Roscommon
  • Kitchen of The Central Bar, Market Square, Roscommon
  • ‘Honeybear’ Ice cream van, Reg No. W471EOB, Shore Front, Buncrana, Donegal
  • Roscommon Golf Club Restaurant, Golf Links Road, Roscommon

Prohibition Orders were served on:

  • Iskon Ireland Ltd, trading as Govinda’s, 4 Aungier St., Dublin 2
  • Iskon Ireland Ltd, Trading as Govinda’s restaurant, 18 Merrion Row, Dublin 2
  • Iskon Ireland Ltd, trading as Govindas, 83 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1
  • Real Brasil grocery, Unit 2, Castle Street, Roscommon

Also, during the month of April, the following successful prosecutions were carried out by the HSE West Region on Harveys Point Hotel, Lough Eske, Donegal; on Monsoon Valley restaurant, Unit 5, Building 2, Retail Park, Bundoran, Donegal; and on The Oven Door, The Diamond, Donegal Town, Donegal.

Professor Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI said, “We have seen a marked increase in the number of Prohibition Orders in April which is a disappointing statistic to be reporting today.  We would stress to food businesses the importance of maintaining the highest standards of food safety hygiene practices at all times. We would also encourage food businesses to visit our website, as it is a comprehensive source of information on every aspect of food safety, food hygiene management, food safety training and food legislation.  Our advice line 1890 336677, as always, is an additional resource, so there is no excuse for food businesses to be unaware of their legal responsibilities to protect consumer health in relation to food safety.”

Details of the food businesses served with these Enforcement Orders are published here on the FSAI’s website.  Closure Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
