The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today stated that five Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses during the month of August for breaches of food safety legislation pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998. The Orders were issued by environmental health officers (EHOs) in the HSE West Region, the HSE Dublin Mid Leinster Region and the HSE Dublin North East Region.
Closure Orders were served on:
• Saffron Indian Cuisine, Unit B32B, Shannon Skycourt, Shannon, Clare
• The Tasty Grill, 39 Richmond Street South, Dublin 2
• Galway Fresh Fish and Seafood Stall & Van (01 MO 1854), Strokestown, Roscommon
• Overseas Chinese Takeaway and Restaurant, Main Street, Elphin, Roscommon
• Great Wall Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway, 15 Church Street, Cootehill, Cavan
A Prohibition Order was served on:
• Felix Enterprises, 88 Summerhill, Dublin 1
Commenting on these latest Enforcement Orders, Prof Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI, stated that it was encouraging to see the number of enforcement orders for August half that served in July.
“We are pleased to be reporting a significant drop in the number of Enforcement Orders served on businesses during August. Our number one priority is the protection of consumer health and we would stress to all businesses the importance of maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness at all times. One of the simplest ways to ensure food is produced safely is to make certain basic hygiene standards are met and yet, this continues to be an issue for some food businesses. You can’t produce safe food in dirty kitchens. We would direct food businesses to visit our website, as it is a comprehensive source of information on every aspect of food safety, food hygiene management, food safety training and food legislation.”
Details of the food businesses served with these Enforcement Orders are published on the FSAI’s website. Closure Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
