Avian influenza outbreaks in a number of poultry flocks

Tuesday, 11 November 2025

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has confirmed a number of outbreaks of avian influenza in some poultry flocks in Ireland. As a consequence, measures have been put in place to manage the spread of this animal disease from affected flocks to other animals. The FSAI advises that there is no evidence of risk associated with eating poultry meat. However, the FSAI continues to advise that poultry meat should be thoroughly cooked prior to eating and good hygienic practices regarding handling of raw poultry meat should always be observed.

Poultry flock owners should remain vigilant for any signs of disease in their flocks, maintain strict biosecurity measures and report any disease suspicion to their nearest Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine regional veterinary office.

The FSAI is actively monitoring the situation to ensure the integrity of controls in the food chain.
