The above batch of Giant Tree Salted Bean Curd Cubes in Brine with Chili (with Sesame Oil) is being recalled due to the presence of Bacillus cereus. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
Nature Of Danger:
Bacillus cereus is a type of bacteria which can be found in the environment. It can form spores and toxins which are not destroyed by cooking. Bacillus cereus causes two types of foodborne illness:
1) a vomiting intoxication caused by the presence of a toxin in the food.
2) a diarrhoeal infection due to the ingestion of bacterial cells which produce a toxin in the small intestine.
Symptoms caused by Bacillus cereus can include abdominal pain, stomach cramping, watery diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Depending on the type of illness caused, symptoms can appear 30 minutes to 24 hours after consuming affected food, and last for 6 to 24 hours.
