Introduction
The FSAI Food Safety Consultative Council (FSCC) is a statutory consultative council established under Section 14 of the FSAI Act, 1998. The purpose of the Council is to facilitate consultations and discussions, for to promote higher standards and other matters relating to the functions of the FSAI with representatives of consumers, producers, retailers, distributors, caterers, manufacturers the food inspectorate and academia.
The Council acts as a forum for debate on food safety issues and provides advice to the FSAI on areas of relevance. It is a constructive vehicle for FSAI stakeholders to provide input to the agenda of the FSAI. The Council meets 3-4 times per year in the FSAI offices. Consultative Council membership
The Consultative Council has 24 members who are appointed by the FSAI Board or through ministerial appointment. The members are appointed to ensure representation of different sectors of the food industry, of consumer groups, the food inspectorate and academia. It is chaired by one of the members and the current chair is Mr Jamie Knox. Appointments to the Consultative Council are made for an initial term of 5 years.
Expressions of interest
There is a current vacancy on the Consultative Council for a member to represent the food supermarket sector in Ireland. The FSAI is inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates to fill this vacancy.
Candidate Criteria:
- Candidates must be currently working directly in the food supermarket sector in Ireland in a retailer with a substantial share of the Irish market.
- Candidates must hold a senior position in this food retailer, in an area that is relevant to the remit of the FSAI and the role of the Consultative Council.
- Candidates should have broad experience/background that is relevant to the wider FSAI remit and role of the Consultative Council.
Application and selection process:
- Interested candidates should submit a short CV (incl. LinkedIn profile, if available) by email to fscc@fsai.ie outlining how they meet the candidate criteria.
- A list of suitably qualified candidates will be presented to the FSAI Board for consideration and decision. Appointment to the Consultative Council will be made by the FSAI Board.
