Commenting on the Closure
Orders served in February, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI stated that
consumers must be confident at all times that the food they are eating is safe
to eat.
“There can be no excuse for putting consumers’ health at
risk through negligent practices. Food businesses must recognise that they have
a legal responsibility to make sure that the food they sell or serve is safe to
consume,” states Dr Byrne. “We are re-emphasising to all food businesses the
need for ongoing and consistent compliance with food safety and hygiene
legislation. This requires putting appropriate food safety management procedures
in place and making sure they are strictly adhered to at all times.”
Dr
Byrne urged food businesses to take full advantage of the information and
support provided by the FSAI and the food safety inspectors to ensure that they
have the correct food safety management systems in place. If any food business
owner is unsure of what is required of them by law, they can contact the FSAI
advice line at info@fsai.ie or visit its website www.fsai.ie
or facebook
page.
Details of the food businesses served with Enforcement Orders are
published on the FSAI’s website. Closure Orders and Improvement Orders will
remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when
a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition
Orders being listed for a period of one month.
