Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

As part of Ireland’s National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (iNAP 2017-2020), members of the FSAI Retail Forum have signed up to a statement of intent around the responsible use of antibiotics in food production systems.

Overall, the National Action Plan aims  to address the problem of antimicrobial resistant organisms (such as antibiotic resistant bacteria) in both human and animal health and in the environment in which we all live.  This so called One Health approach recognises the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.

The initiative by the FSAI Retail Forum members aims to support food producers who adhere to principals of responsible antibiotic use.  Seven retail multiples have signed up to the statement of intent.
