Directive 2006/113/EC (OJ L 376, p14, 27.12.2006) (this opens in a new tab) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 December 2006 on the quality required of shellfish waters
This legislation prescribes quality standards for shellfish waters and requires that Member States designate the waters to which it will apply and set limit values corresponding to certain parameters. The waters so designated must conform to these values within six years of designation.

Classified Bivalve Mollusc Production Areas in Ireland
The Sea-Fisheries Protection Agency (SFPA) publishes a list of Classified Bivalve Mollusc Production Areas in Ireland (this opens in a new tab). This designates the production areas from which live bivalve molluscs may be taken. Gatherers may only harvest live bivalve molluscs from these production areas which have fixed locations and boundaries and which are classified in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 625/2017 (this opens in a new tab).
