National Reference Laboratories

Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2017 on official controls and other official activities performed to ensure the application of food and feed law, rules on animal health and welfare, plant health and plant protection products (OJ L 095, p1, 7/4/2017), as amended, stipulates that Member States shall designate one or more national reference laboratories (NRLs) for each European Union reference laboratory (EURL) and may also designate NRLs in areas where there is no corresponding EURL.

Article 100 and 101 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625, as amended, establishes the requirements for an NRL to be designated and its responsibilities when operating as an NRL.

Commission Decision 98/536/EC (No longer in force) of 3 September 1998 establishes the list of national reference laboratories for the detection of residues (OJ L 251, p39, 11/9/1998), as amended (no longer in force).
